The two sessions on Friday, April 24, focused on the theme of “Turbulence in a Double ‘E’ World: How the economy and the environment affect global foodservice packaging.” First, attendees heard a presentation on the state of the global economy, followed by Rosabeth Moss Kanter, Ernest L. Arbuckle professor of business administration at Harvard Business School, who gave attendees her thoughts on how to survive this recession – and emerge triumphant. The second topic of the day was the environment, with North American and European regulatory updates, as well as presentations on carbon footprinting by Scott Kaufman, U.S. project manager at Carbon Trust, and sustainable packaging by Julian Carroll, managing director at EUROPEN, The European Organization for Packaging and the Environment. In addition to the meetings,
had a chance to network with their peers during a truly memorable tour of historic Boston, an evening at the Harvard Club and a clambake on Beacon Hill.
On 22-24 April 2009 Pack2Go Europe and the Foodservice & Packaging Institute in
the USA met in Boston, Massachussets at the Four Seasons Hotel for a fifth joint meeting. In practice, this was the first time that the two associations met since the founding of Pack2Go Europe (for the first four meetings the European side was represented by the European Food Service and Packaging Assocation).
